To the EarlyBird Community of Parents and Givers,
I hope you and your families are well. In light of the volatility we've witnessed in the markets over these past few weeks and the current state of geopolitical affairs, I wanted to send out a quick note to help put these events into context.
First and foremost, it's important to remember that volatility is just a natural part of investing in the stock market. It's not easy to watch your child's (or your own) portfolio take a hit, but markets recover. Since 1926, there have been 18 drawdowns of greater than 20%. The average recovery time? Only 22 months.
Achieving the best investment results for our kids requires taking a long-term perspective, riding out the ups and downs, and continuing to make contributions to their portfolio. The mantra we encourage parents to adopt is "stay the course." Your kids have the benefit of time on their side, and by continuing to make regular contributions to their account, you’ll also be taking advantage of dollar-cost averaging, an investment strategy recommended by experts everywhere. Stick with it!
The crypto market is, of course, also in a period of volatility. Our outlook here is similar—stay the course and continue to make regular investments. If all of your eggs are in the crypto basket, now is a great time to diversify your assets by investing in stocks and ETFs.
While we can’t predict the future and tell you where the market is headed, I do love to talk about tried-and-true investing strategies, the EarlyBird mission, and especially your little one’s dreams for the future. We welcome your feedback and questions.
From our family to yours,
Jordan Wexler, CEO
